Choosing your style for the perfect Christmas dining space
Posted on 29 October 2016
With the festive season almost upon us now is a good time to think about your dining and entertaining spaces. So this week we are talking furniture options and some different decorating styles to match so you are sure to impress your guests this Christmas.
When it comes to the dining room, we are spoilt for choice. Not only for shapes and sizes but also the materials options they come in. There is concrete or metal wrapped table tops, timber tables and glass top tables. All with their advantages and representing different styles.
Concrete is pretty urban and really on trend at the moment. A zinc wrap is great to add industrial style and a glass top table will help create the illusion of space and is perfect for those smaller dining area as there is no visual barrier.
Let’s start with an option if you’re living in an apartment or a small house. Space is always at a premium, but that doesn’t mean you need to sacrifice on style. A round dining table is ideal, as it is space saving and if you pair it up with a funky slim line dining chair, your room will be refined and stream lined so won’t look bulky
We’re going with an Industrial style to decorate this table – metallics, raw timber and native greenery. Try using natural woven place mats, add a timber cutting board, plain white crockery, matte black cutlery. The different textural elements will make your table look amazing, adding some fresh greenery and candles will help soften the look.
If you have a little more space to play with, you may like our second suggestion.
A larger round dining table is going to give more space for all of that Christmas food and of course more guests. For this option, we are going for a more farmhouse/traditional vibe. Natural, rustic, earthy and comfy upholstered chairs are a few things that spring to mind when talking about farmhouse style.
A Farmhouse Christmas dinner setting can be created by using more muted colours like powder blues, light greens and neutral linen place mats or tablecloth. Some subtle patterned dinnerware, oversized glassware and floral arrangements help to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Our final style today calls for a larger dining table – something sleek, modern and sophisticated. This designer look can be created with a large table like the Black Oval Dining Table, darker in colour with great detail - such as workmanship, shape and leg structure. Add some sexy dining chairs upholstered in leather like the Soho to create contrast and your sumptuous space is taking shape.
This sophisticated space needs some Christmas bling – metallic silver or gold table decorations, such as oversized candelabras, bauble groupings at each place setting, crisp white linen, fine glassware and for an extra touch try adding gold cutlery. A nice trail of greenery down the centre of the table will add an element of lushness to your grand table setting.
We hope that these dining ideas have given you some inspiration, and will help take some of the stress out of creating your own Christmas table settings this holiday season and remember, not long now until Santa arrives!
