When Interior Design Meets Fashion
Posted on 01 October 2016
This week the World of Domu is looking at how in the past couple of years the fashion industry has been influencing interior design trends. We are seeing all the major fashion labels including Diane von Furstenberg, Oscar de la Renta and Roberto Cavalli, adding décor products and branching out to new clientele like us, design lovers! If you love wearing different prints and colours that stand out, the fashion world is saying, why shouldn’t you be able to dress up interiors in a similar style?
You can really see how interior design imitates fashion by observing the patterns fashion designers use in their décor products. DvF’s fabrics below represent her signature stripes and zebra-like prints. The idea here is that you can purchase these fabrics to then upholster that perfect accent armchair or headboard you’ve been coveting.
With Roberto Cavalli for instance, his love for leopard or jaguar print clothing is also seen in his home decor collection, where he doesn’t hesitate to repeat these prints in table wear or home decor accessories
Here are a few of our favourite pieces by other designers that have captured our attention.
The tendency for fashion designers to expand their fashion collections by adding home décor products makes sense from a strategic point of view as well. Diversifying one’s business is smart financially, and we forecast that this trend is here to stay for a while. In fact, we are seeing home décor sections being added to lower end retailers such as H&M, Zara and Cos.
We thought we would leave you to feast your eyes on some Chanel-inspired designs we know we wouldn’t mind having in our home. Enjoy!
